The Correct Spelling Of Words

The correct spelling of words mostly depends on spelling rules, but only the habit of consulting a dictionary ensures correctness. When in doubt, check it out! Consult a dictionary.

Many singular nouns resemble verbs. They are spelled exactly the same way as the verb and the only way to tell the difference is in the context of the sentence, the use of the word. Does it name a person or thing? If it names a person or thing it is a noun. If it names one person or thing it is a singular noun. Sound Beginnings by Julia Fogassy is a condensed version of Spalding phonics that we have found most helpful in that it cuts out the academic fluff and has the handiest reference charts in the covers. Andrew Pudewa’s Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) has professional creative writing ideas and some free online writing courses.
