Common sense practice worksheets are the order of the day at A-Z Worksheets!

Reading well written literature is one of the best ways to understand correct grammar. English grammar lessons should capitalize on this with excerpts from good literature once the grammar definitions have been taught. We find that when a student copies his English grammar lessons in a logical manner that shows the English grammar rules first he learns the rules of English grammar in a way that can last a lifetime. Copying lists of grammatical terms and the grammar definitions is useful once the proper grammar rules and definitions are learned.

So many words are able to be different English parts of speech! The correct grammar rules are indispensable to understanding English grammar lessons since so many words can be used in different ways, even with the same spellings! A-Z Grammar Worksheets are meant to offer grammar practice throughout the elementary education years. The main difference in levels will be the rule of the lines and the length of the lists. Remember that a list of verbs will have many nouns in it, both singular and plural nouns. It is important when teaching verbs to include this tip! Appositive nouns look exactly like any other noun when they are not in context. Appositives can be nouns, pronouns, noun phrases and noun clauses.

Say it! Write it! Repeat it!

Appositive noun practice is easy with Appositive Nouns Grammar Worksheets. You can offer as many as needed till your students understand their English grammar lessons, but don’t tarry too long since there is so much that cross-teaches the same rules of English grammar throughout the years. Reading good literature can give a good foundation in correct grammar over time.

Mr. John Gatto, New York City and New York State Teacher of the Year, once said that old timers had their students work through one hard book. Guess what? Ever after that the student could read anything! We feel that most subjects are like that. The rules of English grammar and the punctuation rules are mostly a matter of logic; they help the reader understand what the author wrote. Mastery learning has its merits especially with math, typing and music; yet once a student has the correct grammar basics, teaching grammar and writing is as simple as having your students write well frequently! Teaching grammar can be quite simple.

We find this principle to be applicable with Appositive Nouns Grammar Worksheets when the grammar definitions are taught in a logical manner and the student practices the principle often enough. Many students can learn Grammar and writing quickly once they understand the terms! To wit, remember that the Harvey Grammar of old was ONE 120 page book! A tiny book! The principles are simple even if the book and testing companies change the names – head noun? Determiners?

Say It! Write It! Repeat It!

Common sense practice worksheets are the order of the day at A-Z Worksheets!

The merit to English grammar lessons is in teaching the logic of correct grammar. There is a better way to say or write an idea so that the reader understands what the author wrote and the grammar and punctuation rules are the guide. There are no real levels of grammar; just a deeper use of the same rules, longer words, and more complex sentences. The rules of English grammar do not change, but we do learn more as our correspondence becomes more complex.

English Parts Of Speech And Sentence Structure

Teaching writing to young students is much easier when there is an example of the words before the student with the correct spelling and a correct sentence structure. Proper grammar requires some knowledge of the English parts of speech, capitalization rules, and punctuation rules. Time to practice the grammar definitions and grammar rules is the secret to long term facility. Repeat the concept till the student is handy with it and move to the next while incorporating what has already been studied into future lessons.

We recommend that you use these products for English grammar lessons. The Phonics Road to Spelling & Reading by Barbara Beers has a DVD set to train the teacher or parent to teach writing, composition and grammar. We love how it teaches correct grammar and composition together! The Writing Road To Reading has excellent technical information for teaching spelling, writing and reading lessons and has an excellent scope and sequence in the appendix. Sound Beginnings by Julia Fogassy is a condensed version of Spalding phonics that we have found most helpful in that it cuts out the academic fluff. Andrew Pudewa’s Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) has professional creative writing ideas and some free online writing courses.

We would also like to recommend the online grammar program Grammarly grammar checking software with Plagiarism Detection for older students. Grammarly has grammar software that allows the user to upload his work for 150 grammar checks with detailed error explanation, plagiarism detection of unoriginal text, text enhancements to suggest better words to use, and contextual spell check to spot misused words and to suggest replacement words! The plagiarism finder notes when your text matches text from the Web (a benefit of Grammarly being an online grammar program) and suggests MLA format, APA writing format, and Chicago preformatted references! Imagine having a resource that teaches the MLA format and the APA writing style for references! Do you find yourself using the adjective “great” too often? Grammarly suggests words that improve the readability of your text with content-optimized synonyms

We would also like to recommend the Reading Pen for older students as it voices the word it scans and has a giant spelling dictionary of 600,000 vocabulary words which would enhance any reading comprehension activities especially in the sciences where one understands how to say a word better when he hears it spoken. The definition of vocabulary words is right there with the correct spelling of words and the English parts of speech as well. The best reading comprehension activities teach more vocabulary words! You can buy the Reading Pen by Wizcom here.
