How We're Using Site Build It

...and how you can, too.

Hi. My name is Mary and I'm using Site Build It to build a printable worksheets site. I live with my family in Kansas in the Mid-Western United States, a most beautiful part of the world, especially for its sunsets. What was our interest?

Number one:Our own children were using the worksheets.

Number two: My husband has worked for places that went out of business and we were looking to build a retirement.

Our Second Site

We'd already built a successful website with Site Build It that was, and is, a goodmoney maker, so we used the BrainStormIt tool at SBI to search for an even more profitable site concept and found the site concept for this new site. Our first site is nearly on autopilot but is still increasing our income stream and it has great room for growth - all we have to do is write more pages!

We've been buying computer equipment, much needed furniture and finally went on our first "real" family vacation in 23 years and had the extra money to do the fun things! Many of our friends say, "Hey, that's great." They say that they don't have the time or the money to travel and live a less anxious life. They lack the time or the money, or both....

This was our plight for many years and would be now, at least things would be tight and we would not have the extras that we are so grateful to be able to enjoy. We are solving that tight plight and you can too. How? Read on...

At First...

I've been a stay at home Mom - SAHM - for these 23 years. Our life is our children and their futures. We made many sacrifices to be able to enjoy our family on one income. Like so many families, we've endured plant closings and career changes - four times. That's right. Four times. Exhausting.

My husband now works at another plant that does pay a modest family wage, but threatens to go on strike every other time the contract comes due. The last strike lasted four months. That would take us under. We wonder, too, what will be taken away in each new contract even if the plant does not strike.

Side jobs never paid what over-time did and required more travel so my husband has committed himself to many long hours of over-time.

We've tried multi-level marketing and did fairly well one year, but the travel and conventions ate up any extra income. We sure enjoyed the friends that we made but had to realize that the money wasn't enough to compensate the time away from our family.

A God-Send Of An Opportunity

In the course of time we had made Audio CDs that family and friends enjoyed so much that their families and friends were asking for them. One dear lady even came to the door with money, asking to have the recording.

Voila! My husband said, "This is the beginning of a vocation. We can't afford to keep giving these away." So we tightened up even tighter, found a darling lady at a bookstore who immediately recognized their worth to pre-order and pre-pay, and we footed the rest of the bill to produce the CDs professionally.

Pound the pavement? Send letter after letter? Send free sets? You bet. Not one other order! The book sellers were being pinched themselves and wanted to showcase their own stock and their own publications.

Enter: my sister Sheila. She said, "Mary, you need a website." Our oldest daughter said, "I'd love to do that kind of thing." She was finished with high school, so we thought that it would be a way to see if she would really love it and to see if our CDs had a chance. That was two years ago Christmas 2008.

Tutorials And Worksheets!

My two oldest daughters and I spent the next three months learning what Site Build It taught that we could do to build a website and built it! At the third month we had our CDs ready as Downloads! At the moment of this same six months and after seeing the gigantic potential of our tiny site concept, my husband's plant threatened to strike - at this awful time in the economy and only just after a year of working there. We didn't have much saved ahead. We loved building the first website, especially seeing that it was soon going to be able to run on its own - sending us email money :-)

My husband was seeing that this was no "girl-thing". The steady and growing income was proof that a bigger site concept would zoom past the income of our first site. Now, Daddy comes home after second shift eager to know what the sites did for the day and giving us a list of new ideas - not dead from working long hours. Really? Yes, we usually put in 10-12 hours per week at that time.

Close family? You betcha. Many hours learning, planning and dreaming! Several of our other children have also learned to use the keyboard in their enthusiasm for building their own sites some day.

Garden? Yes, but way smaller. This year Mom's garden was at the computer and we would have half the garden that we'd normally had - salsa - that was it.

All of us are learning and improving!

The Results?

This site, A-Z Worksheets, is now beginning to make more money than our first site! We knew that it would, but the first one kept making more and more so that we wondered if the second would ever catch up. It is happening now even though both streams are still growing. The horizon is brighter and brighter for us and our children - and the Kansas skies do look brighter, too.

Pretty good for being in a recession. By the time 22 months had passed these sites produced every MONTH two car payments, the house payment and both cars' insurance. Yippy! That was October 2010. November was even better. Another plus - we sleep a lot better now.

...And new bed coming next!

We've made a commitment as a family to keep building more worksheets through the years as our youngest child grows. That keeps this site fresh and real. We use what we make and we improve what we make.
