One of our favorite reading comprehension exercises is to instruct the students to create their own questions from their reading material. This may seem simple but it is one of our favorite reading exercises in the higher grades since it can be applied to most any books or reading passages and the students really do think, "Hmm.... What is important in this piece?" It can be from written or oral reading passages. Teaching reading comprehension begins with making sure the student can read and then simply giving the student time to read interesting books. They love "making the test"!

There's less need for practice worksheets in this grade because students are beginning to read to learn about other things in a more comprehensive way. Learning to read is one thing, reading to learn opens the whole world. Check the left columns of our subjects pages for extra worksheets, especially for Math and Grammar.

Remedial 6th Grade Worksheets

So often, our children reach 6th Grade without the basics and this is the reason that many teachers and parents find our site. If you're hoping to remedy a deficiency in your students' learning, this whole site can be very useful. Simply use the search bars at the top of every page for the concept your students need to practice, like "fraction worksheets". We have a page dedicated to the basics in fractions and that page will have the links to all our new or related worksheets.

We frequently see 6th graders not reading well. Our videos, flash cards and worksheets can be a big help here. Our advanced Phonics Lessons work well with Phonics Worksheets and all of them are free. The Phonics Rules can be a giant help for both reading and spelling.

Many are not familiar enough with their Math facts either because they never had the time and the help necessary to memorize them, or because they've been using calculators and are a bit rusty. In this case, our Math facts videos, flash cards, and worksheets are helpful. These require low teacher or parent involvement once your students have been introduced.
